The Educational Development Committee has focused on two new initiatives this biennium, EMBODI (empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) and PEACE (Parents Empowered Active in Children’s Education).
The EMBODI program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-American males. Both informal and empirical date suggests that the vast majority of African-American males continue to be in crisis and not reaching their fullest potentials educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues with the embodiment of values and skills for a successful transition to manhood.
PEACE is an initiative that will prepare youth for the world and will solicit a shared responsibility from the entire community. The health of a community can be measured by its success in engaging parents and developing all of its children. Delta continues its direct focus on stronger parental involvement initiatives for children’s development in Delta youth programs, schools, and in the community.
